Holiday Bubble and Bling

Pink Peach Balls-WM

Make your holidays sparkle with these two great dies from Poppystamps! I used the Bubble Ornament die to cut a shiny piece of snowy white cardstock. The Bubble Ornament die works best “in reverse,” which means instead of adhering the image on top of your background, you insert paper behind it to add color. I used the Berry Sprig die in the same way, inserting black paper, giving the card a unique feel and look. I then used an old-school paper punch to make the gold chain hanging from the branch. This card was so much fun to make, and now I’m in the mood for the holidays! Make them sparkle!

Churchyard Bird

I love America’s old cities in Autumn. The hot summer days give way to cooler breezes and softer sun, and it’s the perfect time to walk around and explore all the intricate architecture and decorative details in every doorway and window in the city. As this little red bird took his perch outside the Grand Gothic Iron Work window, I was reminded of the old Colonial churchyards in Philadelphia and Boston hidden in tiny pockets around the city. Maybe this design reminds you of old Savannah or Birmingham, or maybe another city that’s on your travel itinerary.

You can design your own Gothic Churchyard in Autumn, and make it spooky for Halloween, or snow-covered for the winter holidays, using all the beautifully detailed Memory Box and Poppystamps dies and paper. Let yourself be inspired by your favorite pocket in your city.

Autumn Berries

We’re nearing the end of September and even though the days are still sunny and hot, all around us the lush colors of autumn are everywhere. I designed this fun fall card using the new Berry Sprig die and the Woodland Berries cling stamp from Poppystamps. To create the subtle background, I used my favorite alcohol inks and floated them in a shallow glass baking dish. Then I slid my paper under the inks and lifted it out, capturing the swirling patterns of the ink on my cardstock. I then hung them up to dry, then pressed them flat with two smooth boards under a wrapped brick. I use that technique to flatten everything, and to evenly press out glue dots and streaks.

Autumn is my favorite season, so I will leave you all with my favorite bit of poetry.

The day becomes more solemn and serene

when noon is past; there is a harmony

in Autumn, and a lustre in its sky

which through the Summer is not

heard or seen

As if it could not be, as if it had

not been!

Winter is on it’s Way

Vivid reds and bright whites always remind me of the beautiful red and white glass ornaments my grandmother hung on her tree every year that came all the way from Poland. The red and white combination makes me feel like Christmas! Carolina On My Mind

It’s hard to believe that the Autumnal Equinox is less than two weeks away. On September 22, at 3:44 p.m., the day and night will be equal in length in the Northern Hemisphere. After that, the days will get shorter and shorter, the sun will rise later, and nightfall will come sooner. But here in the South, today is still hot and sunny. With this colorful card, made with dies from the new Poppystamps collection, I might be able to hold on to summer just a little bit longer.

During our Poppystamps Blog Blitz, going on until September 20th, you can enter for a chance to win this great die, the Carolina Birdhouse, plus a lot more! Just go the Poppystamps blog and leave a comment on any of the great projects and you could win one (or more) new steel craft dies or cling stamps from the Poppystamps new release. Winners will announced September 23!

Lots of Dots of Color

As the bright summer blooms melt into rich autumn earth tones, you can add lots of dots of color with fresh paper from the Memory Box collection. I love how the outline of the flower and the leaves creates a light and airy feel. This design would also pop in bright autumn oranges and golds. See what you can do with the following Poppystamps and Memory Box steel-crafted dies.
