All Rolled Up

IMG_0033-WM

To create the look of colorful rolls of silk, I used my favorite origami scraps and tied them with a red silk cord. I love the effect! It seems unusual to be thinking about spring now that so many of us are recovering from yesterday’s big snow storms across the country! But it’s always a great time to think about how we can add color and diversity into our lives! Take Care, everyone!

Cherry Blossom Lantern

IMG_0031-WM

These beautiful cherry blossoms and this big red vellum lantern were so much fun to make! Memory Box has made a beautiful cherry blossom die, and I love to use it with pretty pastels for a wedding look, or bright red lanterns for Lunar New Year. I added dimension to the lantern by carefully scoring tiny lines with a teflon folder. The open Lorelai Leaf Outline from Poppystamps gives this card a modern feel.

Special thanks go out to my cheerful friend Franki from Let’s Create, a crafting supply store in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, my home state. Franki and her staff are all so knowledgeable on the latest products, and she carries the complete Memory Box and Poppystamps line. One day, Franki gave me this great die cut, an open weave circle design which I fell in love with immediately. It adds so much texture and dimension to a project. It’s called Contempo Circle from Memory Box, and I used that as the white decorative element against the vivid pink blossoms and red lantern. Franki is a great resource for anybody interested in cardmaking and crafting techniques.

Enjoy the New Year’s festivities, and live your life in color!

Bailiwick Birds

IMG_0008-wm

I’ve been working with so many colorful red lanterns lately that I thought I would share a card I created for the Poppystamps blog blitz, over at the Poppystamps website. The blog officially ended on January 19th, but you have all the way up to the 27th to leave a comment on any or all of the blog posts for your chance to win some amazing Poppystamps dies or Memory Box stencils. You can also see some great inspiration from our Poppystamps Design Team using beautiful die cuts made from the Valentine’s Day new release! This design pictured here, Bailiwick Birds, is featured on January 8th, and highlights the Bailiwick Background, which you could win and add to your spring collection! Enjoy these pretty little lovebirds, and check back from now until the end of the month for a collection of Lunar New Year cards!

Clever Koi

These clever koi help create a simple, colorful card with an Asian inspired theme. I like how the decorative elements like a single red lantern, a few pink blossoms and some patterned paper have come together so well to create this relaxing scene.
