Celebrate Arbor Day

Happy Arbor Day! With a little patterned paper, a beautiful stamp of my favorite green tree, and a few die cuts,  I have made a big, colorful square card to honor and celebrate a wonderful gift that the Earth has provided to us: TREES!  As a paper artist, I am very grateful for our leafy pals, and try to craft and create as ecologically responsibly as I can. I recycle every scrap of paper I use here at home, and try to purchase new paper made from recycled materials as often as I can. I also take the little bits of leftover pieces from the die cutting and separate them by color families that I then use to make my own paper. But that project is reserved for the summertime, when I’ve got a nice clear day with no breeze that allows me to make a big mess outside. I’ll be sharing some of my hand-made paper results with you all in a few short weeks. Until then, I’ll keep creating projects that celebrate our beautiful earth all year long!

Church Kitty

Holy Week has finally arrived–the time before Easter when we prepare for Easter Sunday! We clean, decorate, bake and pick out a nice ham. We also prepare in other ways too. I like to think of this little church kitty watching all the hustle and bustle inside the church, waiting for the kind church lady to bring him a saucer of milk and a bit of fish.

Bunny Bringing Gifts

IMG_0260-WM

This little bunny is bringing somebody a sweet little fuschia flower in their Easter basket, (along with a few Poppystamps dies too)! This unique textured background was created with one of the new plastic stencils from the Memory Box spring release. Just stamp the stencil with different colors of ink and then heat emboss with clear powder. It will bring a little color to a special somebunny’s day!

Letters From Home

IMG_0258-WM

I made this subtle spring card, with a hint of Easter greetings, for a friend of mine who lives across the country. He is one of the few people I know who really cherishes the wonderful art of letter writing. I have always considered him my “muse” because when I first began creating cards, I always kept him in mind, knowing that most of the cards would end up in his mailbox! That, and he has excellent tastes as well!

Since this card will be send in a standard card envelope by the U.S. Postal Service, both the sunflower and the bunny, from Poppystamps, are glued flat onto a piece of patterned paper. For those of us who love creating dimensional cards with a lot of pop, embellishments, and designs that extend past the frame of the card (like me), a flat card for easy mailing can be a challenge! But it’s worth the effort when you can send a bit of cheer to a friend, your grandmother, or even a soldier far away. See how many ways you can add a beautiful creation to a hand-written letter!
