Today I started with my giant craft wall planner that I hang on the door of my craft studio. I made the calendar myself with a sharpie and a ruler, and added die cut numbers and weekday tabs. It’s all ready to be decorated with my favorite Paper Sweeties stamps and dies.
I love July! There is SO much to celebrate and remember for me! We’ve got birthdays, Independence Day picnics and parades, vacation days, travel time, and of course, Mr. Crimson Owl and I celebrate our Anniversary too! We were married in Las Vegas on 07/07/07! Every day is noteworthy! I got a great idea using the Paper Sweeties Sweet Cuts Borders. I hung the patriotic “bunting” across the top, and I then added tiny tab flags in every square. A tiny row of hearts mark our Anniversary date!
I was originally going for a full red, white, and blue salute, but then decided to make the flags a rainbow of colors, and I loved the way they look across the grid. They remind me of strings of colorful Tibetan prayer flags, hanging high and blowing in the wind.
You can make your own flags to mark special dates you need to take note of, or you can write little messages or words of encouragement on the individual flags. You can add or remove flags when you complete assignments or keep track of the month.
These big paper craft calendars are meant to be temporary, so once I start filling in dates and projects, adding icons and images, and coloring and doodling, this chart ends up looking like a wall of graffiti! But it truly gets the job done! This will never look any prettier than it does right now. This month, I decided to leave you all with this pretty image, and perhaps it will remind you too of the prayer flags, waving for peace and unity in these hot summer days!
