The Card Concept #63: Love & Joy

img_3886-wm

Hello Everyone!

Welcome to our final challenge of 2016 at The Card Concept, Love and Joy! We will be back after winter break with Challenge #64 on January 4th! Until then, this cozy home and hearth inspiration photo will make you smile! You can get all the details and link up your Love and Joy project over at The Card Concept blog right here: http://thecardconcept.blogspot.com/

For my Freestyle Collage card, I focused on a few elements that inspired me from the photo. The fireplace really stands out, of course, but I also added tiny trees and a big JOY on the mantle, and a blazing fire in the hearth. Whenever we burned logs in the fireplace at our old house, which was very rare, my cat Big Max would curl up so close to the fire screen chain I was worried he would burn himself. But that was one of his very favorite things that brought him joy in his golden years. He LOVED an open fire. So this card needed a kitty too!

Today’s card is Freestyle Collage done in a very clean and graphic style. What’s yours? We’d love to see what you create, and how you’ll be inspired by the photo.

Hello Everyone!

Today I have reached my FINAL tag for the 25 Days of Christmas Tags, sponsored by Tracey McNeely! You can get all the details and link up your tags at Tracey’s blog right here: http://inmycreativeopinion.blogspot.com/2016/11/25-days-of-christmas-tags-main-post-and.html

I didn’t create 25 tags in 25 days, oooooh no! (plus the bonus 26th day). But I had so much fun challenging myself to be creative with these tiny tags! For my final tag, I chose my inspiration from Day 25 and Amy Coose, from Jilliibean Soup. Take a look at Amy’s original tag:

I love the idea of the framed green tree, so I went with something a little folk artsy and fun! I hope you have had as much seeing all of my tags as I have had creating them!

Here’s my tag for Day 20!

I love pink at Christmas! It’s just merry and bright and a little fresh! This tag was inspired by Therese Calvird’s tag from Day 20, from Altenew. This is Therese’s original tag:

I love Therese’s tiny tag duo! I fused her tags together to create a larger tag with a pink ornament, bow, and lots of merry! I love this color palette too, and used it on my tag too!

It’s all about the snow! Plaid always reminds me of mittens and mittens remind me of snow! So this pastel plaid tag is great for a little winter cheer! I was inspired by Melissa Bickford’s tag from Day 19, from Concord & 9th! Take a look at Melissa’s original:

Colorful plaid and a big snowflake were my inspiration. What’s yours?

This is one of my favorite tags! It’s for Christmas, but it’s in such bright, summery colors, and all die cuts too! It was inspired by Jeanne Jachna’s tag from Birch Press Design on Day 17. Take a look at Jeanne’s original tag.

I was really drawn to Jeanne’s pretty color palette, very unusual for Christmas, and the background panel too.

There’s only a few days left to play along with the challenge, and win prizes from some AMAZING sponsors too! I’ve go a few more up my sleeve too!

Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers UFO Challenge

img_3720-wm2

Hello Everyone!

Today I heard about a brand new challenge, U is for UFO! If you haven’t heard, UFO is for Unfinished Object, and I have got a drawer crammed with UFOs! This challenge is sponsored by the Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers, which is new to me, so I thought I’d check them out. You can visit their blog, and play along with the UFO challenge right here: http://snarkystampers.blogspot.ca/2016/11/soss-73-u-is-for-ufo.html

14517553_10154582313561112_3311074605608999968_n

I am intrigued, and I think I will enjoy creating a few snarky cards in the future. But today, it’s about the UFOs, and as I’ve mentioned, I have a UFO invasion, poking out of their craft drawer, or making their escape and winding up in odd places in the house. Sometimes my cat, Max, will personally deliver the UFO, dropping a bitten up paper tree branch or a mangled paper pumpkin at my feet, so proud of his victory. Now it’s time to put a few UFOs to work!

I found the card base and stitched card panel in this pretty autumn plaid design. They were the start of a plaid challenge, but then I didn’t know what to do next so I scrapped it and made something else. I have a lot of cuts left over in black. Sometimes I’ll cut a die in black to create a shadow effect or add dimension. I rummaged in the drawer and found a tree, a picket fence, and a few leaves and birds, all in black. Voila! An autumn card was born.

The Sisterhood of snarky Stampers looks like a lot of fun, and their card designs gave me a great laugh! Check out their blog for some inspiration and some humor too!
