Poppystamps June Challenge: Rainbow Wishes

Hello Everyone!

Welcome to the Poppystamps June Challenge, Rainbow Wishes! June is all about beautiful rainbow color, and you are going to see some amazing ideas from our design team over at the Poppystamps blog right here: http://poppystamps.typepad.com/

What’s a better time for good wishes than on your birthday?! I created a bright and colorful birthday card using a few of my new favorite inks, Distress Oxide Inks. I just picked up this set while traveling recently, and this is the first chance I’ve had to give them a go. Take a look!

Have you seen this new trend, and have you tried Distress Oxide Inks yet? Distress Oxide Inks blend color, layers, and water to create beautiful unique patterns and add a fun new dimension to your cardmaking. There are so many ways to use them, you’ll be amazed. I started with a simple technique and achieved great results.

I started by stamping the ink pad directly onto a flat craft mat a few times, then giving it a little spritz of water. Then I smooshed a small square of watercolor paper right into the inky puddle, added a few drops of water to my paper and dried it with a heat gun. From there, you can add as many layers of ink and water as you like. I only used one color on each square, and made one square for each set of balloons I would cut.

The ink dries in these colorful, swirly patterns, thanks to the swirling and moving water droplets. They work perfectly for blending into a rainbow too, creating bright, pure color without muddling. Once my squares were dry, I cut out the Pinpoint Balloons and the Happy Birthday Bold.

Trying to figure out how to arrange the balloons was the hardest part! Omar Kitty came up to give me a hand!

Eventually I decided on a single row of different sized balloons, creating a rainbow. I’ll be using the rest of balloons in another project!

Now it’s your turn! We’d love to see your Rainbow Wishes! Create a Rainbow Wishes themed card using at least one Poppystamps stamp or die and link it up over at the Poppystamps blog for your chance to win an amazing prize!

Thanks so much for joining us today!

Gorgeous DOX ink colors for your pretty die cut balloons and Happy Birthday. I have not tried using just one color of DOX inks with water drops. Love the rainbow effect you achieved. TFS and for the inspiration. Hugs…

I’ve seen a lot of rainbow-colored happy birthday designs, but this one is now at the top of my favorites, Michele!! I love it and so appreciate that you took the time to explain. I’ve got the Oxides, but haven’t used them yet. I’ve always loved smooching, so I know I’m gonna love them after seeing this, which I’m pinning!! Hugs, Darnell

Oooh, I love those distress oxide backgrounds that you made. It’s always great to have gorgeous backgrounds on hand to die cut, or leave as-is . Your bold die cut sentiment in the graduated color design is beautiful…and the subtle texture from water spritzing adds interest. This makes me want to go into my craft room and make a big, colorful inky mess! I keep imagining your Omar kitty with splotches of ink all over his fur to contrast with that lovely inky black!!
