Aloha June! This month, the girls are off on a month-long Hawaiian dream vacation! All month long, it’s fun in the sun, tropical drinks, swimming, boating, cruising around the island and the wonderful Hawaiian coffee!

I used Emma, Abigail, and the brand new Madison, then added Planner icons and images stamped in white ink, then embossed with heat to give them a fun, raised texture.

Right at Home with The Card Concept #75

Hello Everyone!

Welcome to The Card Concept Challenge #75! We have a great challenge for you this week with a beautiful inspiration photo! For me, inspiration photos that feature a room are some of the most challenging. Sometimes there are dozens of little objects or details that can make it hard to focus. Other times, there may be too little to find inspiration other than colors or shapes. So for this week’s challenge, I tried to capture the sophisticated and elegant mood of the dining room, along with the eye-grabbing flowers, and of course, the idea of “home.”  How does the inspiration photo challenge and inspire you? Link up your creation over at The Card Concept Blog right here: http://thecardconcept.blogspot.com/

To create my Classy and Elegant, Mixed Media Freestyle Collage card, I started by making a base out of paper “tiles” I created by marbleizing paper with nail polish! I love the shimmery, glittery effect when the light hits it. I made a small stack of marbleized papers a while ago, and thought one of those sheets would be perfect for this card.

I used the sheet on the bottom right, which featured shades of gold, bronze, and violet red, and cut them into tiles. Then I stamped the gorgeous Beautiful Day flower from Altenew onto a crisp white sheet of cardstock. I took a large word die that reads “home” and carefully secured it in place with a little removable tape on top of the flower and ran it through my machine. Then I cut off all the white space around the flower, cut out a few more “home” cuts and stacked them up, then carefully pieced it all together on my card base. When everything was in place and dry, I added some pink Stickles glitter glue to make the flower shine, then the gold birds and the pink pearls. Lots of mixed media, elegant and classy, and a freestyle collage.

We can’t wait to see what you’ll create, and what style you will try. Will you experiment with something new or use an old favorite that always comes through? Link it up over at The Card Concept, and see all the great inspiration and ideas from our design team this week!

Take a look at what I’ve created for you this month!

I started with a pretty CAS card using Meirenyu, from Digistamps4Joy, and combined it with Serene Seaside from MHKDesigns. It turned out so cute I thought I’d make one more in a different color palette.

To make the pretty mermaid in green, I enlarged the image just a little, and omitted the seashell sentiment. The images for both cards were printed onto white card stock and colored with copic markers. Originally, I was going to do one mermaid in a CAS style, and the other in a mixed media. I had all sorts of little doo dads and nautical images I cut and ready to go. But this image is really striking and a little haunting too, and I like the CAS look to showcase the design.

Poppystamps June Challenge: Rainbow Wishes

Hello Everyone!

Welcome to the Poppystamps June Challenge, Rainbow Wishes! June is all about beautiful rainbow color, and you are going to see some amazing ideas from our design team over at the Poppystamps blog right here: http://poppystamps.typepad.com/

What’s a better time for good wishes than on your birthday?! I created a bright and colorful birthday card using a few of my new favorite inks, Distress Oxide Inks. I just picked up this set while traveling recently, and this is the first chance I’ve had to give them a go. Take a look!

Have you seen this new trend, and have you tried Distress Oxide Inks yet? Distress Oxide Inks blend color, layers, and water to create beautiful unique patterns and add a fun new dimension to your cardmaking. There are so many ways to use them, you’ll be amazed. I started with a simple technique and achieved great results.

I started by stamping the ink pad directly onto a flat craft mat a few times, then giving it a little spritz of water. Then I smooshed a small square of watercolor paper right into the inky puddle, added a few drops of water to my paper and dried it with a heat gun. From there, you can add as many layers of ink and water as you like. I only used one color on each square, and made one square for each set of balloons I would cut.

The ink dries in these colorful, swirly patterns, thanks to the swirling and moving water droplets. They work perfectly for blending into a rainbow too, creating bright, pure color without muddling. Once my squares were dry, I cut out the Pinpoint Balloons and the Happy Birthday Bold.

Trying to figure out how to arrange the balloons was the hardest part! Omar Kitty came up to give me a hand!

Eventually I decided on a single row of different sized balloons, creating a rainbow. I’ll be using the rest of balloons in another project!

Now it’s your turn! We’d love to see your Rainbow Wishes! Create a Rainbow Wishes themed card using at least one Poppystamps stamp or die and link it up over at the Poppystamps blog for your chance to win an amazing prize!
