What is better than love and butterflies? I used bright pops of pink to create a Valentine’s love card sprinkled with a swath of butterflies! It feels like being in love!

Create a card using Mixed Media and/or Colors

 

I used a number of techniques in my mixed media card, starting with a die cut card base with a cute stitched edge border. I then created a pretty watercolor background on watercolor paper, then cut the paper into nine tiny stitched squares. Then I added die cuts and a few sequins. I think I was feeling in a little bit of a cheery love mood!

Take a look at what I have created for you this month!

I fell in love with the beautiful, natural Christmas tree in the inspiration photo. I loved it’s simplicity, and the minimalist decorations on the tree. This year, Mr. Crimson Owl and I are celebrating a very minimalist Christmas, focusing on our blessings from the past, the present and the future. So I selected a beautiful, elegant, vintage image from mhkdesigns, Christmas Frames. I love its Victorian vibe!

My second card was created with an image from Beccy’s Place, available from beccysplace@bigpond.com.  I looked at many beautiful Christmas images from Beccy’s Place, festive and cheerful. Then I came across Seasonal Window and felt it would be the perfect compliment to my Deck the Halls card. The simple candle burning in the window, a Christmas Eve welcome to the passersby on a cold night, really is what the idea of Christmas is all about. I even added a little snowy texture to the windows!

Holiday and/or Colors

To be honest, I really had a hard time with this month’s challenge! My first attempt was much to literal of an interpretation – -I had coffee mugs and pine needles, and it just looked way too dark and clunky. But then I tried something completely different, creating a wreath of beautiful stitched leaves in shades of green, gray, and purplish red, a bit of a variation of the color palette. I finally achieved what I wanted originally, lots of texture and a feeling of the wintry outdoors!

Floral Images and/or Colors

This is how I was inspired!

I used the Beautiful Day layered stamp set from Altenew, and stamped and fussy cut the flowers and leaves. Then I glued them on to a card panel and let it dry overnight. I then cut Winnie & Walter’s  In A Word: hello, right in the center of the image, holding my breath that the cut would come out perfect! I then cut out “hello” about 5 more times, then adhered everything in place, giving the hello a beautiful, raised dimension on the card. It turned out great!
