Poppystamps August Challenge: Beyond Borders

Hello Everybody!

August is here with a brand new challenge over on the Poppystamps blog, Beyond Borders! You can get all the details and play along with our challenge for a chance to win an amazing prize from Poppystamps right here:

Take a look at how I was inspired this month!

Autumn is nipping at our heels, even in this crazy heat! Soon kids will be packing up their backpacks and the leaves will start to turn! I wanted to capture the idea of trees and leaves expanding over the borders of the seasons, with these pretty pattern pieces cut from the Pretty Stitches dies.

If you have never worked with edge dies before, Poppystamps owner Dave Brethauer has created a beautiful video tutorial that you can find over on the Poppystamps blog. Dave created his pretty border edges by cutting six dies at once, then fitting them together like a jigsaw puzzle. To create my border edge, I cut each die separately, then layered each one on top of the other on my blue card stock base.

It doesn’t matter if the edges are sloppy or uneven, since they will all be trimmed evenly with one cut of the guillotine to fit neatly inside my pretty Pointed Rectangle Frame.

Once the edges and frame were smoothly adhered, I added the Birch Tree and a few Stitched Oak tree leaves, spilling down beyond the borders.

Now it’s your turn! We’d love to see what you’ll create! Just make a card or project using at least one Poppystamps die or stamp and share your concept of Beyond Borders! Link it up over at the Poppystamps blog, and see more great inspiration from our design team!

Poppystamps Challenge #12: Autumn Splendor

Poppystamps has a colorful challenge for September, Autumn Splendor! All you have to do is create a card or project featuring at least one Poppystamps die, and you could win a beautiful new die from our new release! Get all the details right here:

I wanted my card to pop right off the page with autumn color and splendor! I also wanted to do something a little different than the traditional autumn reds and golds. Here in the South, Autumn weather still means bright blue skies and warm, sunny days. I chose some of my brightest citrus papers to put a modern twist on a traditional autumn wreath.

I started out with some pretty blue card stock and used white embossing paste with the Texture Scraped Paint designer stencil from Memory Box. I cut the base wreath out of the Thicket Wreath, then lots of fun little leaves from A Cherry On Top, both from Poppystamps. I added the Maple Leaf Border, a Leafy Sprig, a Berry Sprig, and a tiny feathered friend from the brand new Mama and Baby Quail. It definitely is colorful!

Thanks for joining me today! Head over to the Poppystamps Blog for more great Autumn Splendor inspiration, and to link your card for a chance to win!

I used a few Poppystamps to create a nautical collage scene. In the sea view window are a few colorful fish from Aquarium Fish, and the Marina Sailboats. The cute little octopus is Owen the Octopus, from Memory Box, along with the Shaker Square Frames from Memory Box Open Studio.

Poppystamps December Challenge: Sparkle and Shine

In the blink of an eye, the start of December has arrived! I had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday weekend traveling all the way back to snowy Wisconsin from the sunny South! All that snow . .  and it was a lot this year so far, gave me all kinds of great inspiration for all the upcoming December challenges and blog hops happening right now! Of course, one of my very favorites is the new monthly challenge from Poppystamps! Each month, three or four members of our Poppystamps Design Team give us all some colorful inspiration for our own designs that we can link up to the Poppystamps website for a chance at some great prizes! This month the theme is Sparkle and Shine, and my Design team members gave me such shiny inspiration that I just HAD to play along!

I used this wonderful, very thin shiny green foil paper I discovered in an origami paper pack to create the background for the Mod Snowflake Background. The Viviro Ornament and the Vintage Happy Holidays were cut with some pretty magenta glitter paper that just pops in front of the foil green.

What makes this card super shiny is the way the green foil comes alive in the light! It’s holiday hypnotizing!
